Internet was pretty much non existent though the french countryside; so sorry for the late blog posts. At any rate; we decided in order to see the wine regions of France you have to drive, so yep, we rented a car! Freedom from bus, train, and metro schedules is amazing. Our first stop out of Provence was Orange, the gateway to the Rhone Valley. But as it was a Sunday, and a holiday, there wasn’t much to see, so we took off to drive through the vineyards of the famous Chateaunuf-de-pape region. It is better than you thought, seriously. We found a couple domaines in the hills that were actually open on Sunday, and then headed into the town where we had probably the best experience on our entire trip. We came upon a small wine shop, and the owner poured us the best wine we’d ever had, and topped it off with stories about the wine, his family, life in the Rhone, you name it. It was truly an unforgettable experience; and unforgettable wine, which we’ll be saving a bottle of for our 10th anniversary… when it will be at its prime.
