Entry from: La Cellette, France Entry Title: “First Experience of Farm Life” Entry: “This is our first farm stay with a great couple called Julie and Peter. They live on their small holding between La Chatre and Gueret rearing their goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, dogs and cats. We arrived on Thursday 28th January and had our first day of farm work on Friday – well, 4 hours. They believe in working only 4 hours a day – we like that! We spent the morning milling grain for the animals. It’s been pretty cold since we arrived. We had snow over the weekend and nighttime temperatures of -9 and -10 degrees. There was ice on the inside of the bus windows and Wally’s water was frozen in his bowl in the morning! It’s grand once you get the stove going. We spent yesterday in their woods collecting wood. We had a grand time to ourselves felling dead trees and dragging them back to the wood pile, apart from a few hairy moments when they actually fell. It’s a bit unpredictable. This morning we milked the goat – that was fun! Wally is doing fine. He gets on well with the other dogs, hasn’t bothered the cats yet since they’re not bothered by him and gives the chickens the odd chase around the yard! He also made the ducks fly – something Peter had never seen before. He hasn’t ventured near the goats or the ram yet – I

Entry from: Saint-Tropez, France Entry Title: “First day on the Cote d’Azur” Entry: “The sun was out and the wind was down, so Nico decided it was perfect weather to take the boat out. It was also Alan & Carolyn’s last day. They had a plane to catch at 6pm from Nice, so after a leisurely breakfast by the pool enjoying the view, it was a short drive down to the coast at St Maxime where the boat is kept in the marina. St Maxime is a resort town, very busy at this time of year. Restaurants line the the very touristy main street along the foreshore. There are a lot of apartments, but no high rises and no big hotels. Seems to be more family orientated. Like Nico’s parents do, there are apparently many retirees who live in the north and come down here for the summer. St Tropez is a short distance across the Gulfe de St Tropez, but we first went to Port Grimaud at the head of the gulf, which is like a mini Venice. C****s lined with 2 and 3 level houses and units all joined together, where you can moor your boat right outside the living room. Some of the c****s were lined with restaurants so you could step off the boat into the restaurant. What a delightful place. St Tropez is one of THE places on the coast, the marina there is brimming with multi million dollar vessels of all shapes but mostly big ones. We
