Entry from: Loire Valley, France Entry Title: “French chateaux and countryside” Entry: “I took a bus tour to visit the castles of the Loire Valley. Left Paris at 7:15am and had a 3 ¾ hour drive to our first stop. There were travellers from Australia, France, Spain and Japan. My high school Japanese came in handy along the way, as did the Spanish I have picked up from concentrating on Dora the Explorer when the kids watch it at school! Along the way we saw farms, fields full of the yellow plant that has the seed used in canola oil, forests and the Loire River. At 11am we arrived at Chenonceau and we were guided around the inside. Then we had free time to look at the gardens and go through the maze. The castle was being restored at the front so unfortunately could only get photos from one side, luckily it was the best side and the one I had hoped for. Next we drove to Cheverny where we looked inside, around the gardens and at the kennels. This was the only Chateaux that currently has a family in residence, so we could only see half of the building. Finally we drove to Chambord which was the most magnificent of them all! It really looked and felt like a castle from a fairytale. I got so camera happy, as you can see from all the pictures. We departed at 5:15pm and arrived back in Paris at 8:15pm. Daylight …

Vlog: I’m going on vacation to parts far and foreign (at least to me). Obviously, this requires traveling. In fact, even at the ridiculous speed of jet airplane travel it requires a large number of hours. Fortunately for the world I do not have the kind of youtube account that allows me to upload videos over nine hours in length. I haven’t posted much lately because I have been incredibly busy at work getting ready to go away for a few weeks. Now I am away for a few weeks but the internet has been hard to come by. Finally I have a good connection so it’s time to post something ![]()
Dedicated to Hannah J, one of my dearest and oldest friends.

Take a tour of French Village of Lagrasse in Lagrasse, France — part of the World’s Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. When entering the French village of Lagrasse, it looks much as it did centuries ago. The town’s biggest landmark is its fantastic eighth-century abbey, Saint Marie d’Orbieu. Also popular are the town’s medieval bridges which span the river, and serve as common swimming destinations. The town’s narrow streets and alleys are lined by authentic medieval stone buildings. It’s a beautiful place in which to walk and has many sites to explore. With houses perched up against the river back, a rolling hillside backdrop, and ancient yet functional monument, Lagrasse is indeed a beautiful part of France.

Entry from: Nice, France Entry Title: “The French Riviera!” Entry: “From Cinque Terre, I took the train along the Italian coast and back to France and the French Riviera. I stayed in Nice, and made that my base to explore the coast line. The first day, I walked down into Old Nice, where they have a fresh flower and vegetable market that is set up in the streets. It was pretty large, and bustling with people. I’m sure the locals who were actually there to get their weekly produce were frustrated with all the tourists who were getting in their way. From there, you go south one block and you’re right on the boardwalk and beachfront. I wanted to spend part of the day at the beach, and the staff at my hostel told me the beaches at the next seaside town along the coast, Villafranche, are much nicer, so I decided to walk there (about an hour and a half walk). On the way, I passed the port of Nice and checked out all the million-dollar private yachts. The French Riviera is apparently the place to be if you’ve got a mega-yacht, as they were everywhere! From the port, I walked around the coast to Villafranche and lied on the beach for a few hours…very relaxing. I also walked around the town a little bit and then hiked back to Nice. The pictures will tell a much better story than I can. The terrain of the …

Take a tour of French Village of Belcastel in Belcastel, France — part of the World’s Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. The Averyon River runs through a small village in the south of France. Belcastel is a small place, with less than 300 citizens, but is quite beautiful. The stone walled and lauze-roofed houses of Belcastel exemplify medieval architecture. The towns narrow cobbled streets and quiet side lanes create an aesthetically warm atmosphere. It took a dozen men, 8 years in the 1970′s, to restore the 9th century Belcastel castle by hand; an enormous undertaking. The serene and lovely town of Belcastel rises up the hill with the castle as its crowning pinnacle.
