Canal St-Martin, Paris (France) – Travel Guide

Posted in France Travel | 24 comments

Emmanuelle shows you where the locals go to get away from the city life. Location: 10th Arrondissement Canal St-Martin is where Parisians come to take a break from the city life. You can walk, you can bike, you can dine and even shop. Napoleon was responsible for the construction of the canal in the early 1800′s. Back then, many poor people were living here, unlike today, where the rich crowd apartments with a view of the canal. There are many boat tours here, to show you the 81 mile long Canal St-Martin along is a (unclear) on the history of this area. On the weekends, the streets along the canal are turned into biking and pedestrian areas. When you are hungry, you can eat at any one of the restaurants along the canal. They are cozy, they are small and you can find very good food. There are many budget hotels in this area. If you do not want to do anything else, you can come to the canal and skip stones in the water, like Amelie in the famous movie. This is Emmanuelle, showing you Paris.

He gave it to me to use with some slideshows and clips as long as I credited him. The first two photos are above Autoir, France and may show chemtrails. The rest of the photos are in Martel, known as the City of Towers. Les Halles, the marketplace, is open every Wednesday morning. We enjoyed it and then had a restaurant lunch there on a terrace facing it. We enjoyed local products such as foie gras, walnuts, polenta in cassoulet, saffron rice (they produce very good saffron here) and fresh, ripe figs. This region also produces much tobacco, fruit, corn and dairy products, including lots of goat and beef products. In July and August, Les Halles in Martel has free live music. It must be very pleasant, but we avoid vacation travel in Europe in July and August, preferring September and other off-peak times. The Quercy region of France is fascinating and has a rich history. We stayed in a rented, furnished 17th century house in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, in the Corrèze département. The landlady does not speak English, but I could connect you. It was very inexpensive and sleeps five. We never had to buy more diesel fuel during our week here for our little car. So many things are right around, you don’t have to do any long drives. We tried to rent in Martel for the week but the place was

Belleville Neighborhood, Paris (France) – Travel Guide

Posted in France Travel | 4 comments

For a glimpse of Bohemian Paris, take a walk down the neighborhoods of Belleville. The area is a melting pot of various cultures, adding to the colors and caste. Belleville used to be a quaint village and it was annexed in the city of Paris in the 19th century. Belleville somehow has always attracted refugees from all over the world. Now, however, there is another group that returns its place. Artists and party animals. All shops have been converted to art galleries and restaurants, and they are much cuter and cheaper than in other neighborhoods. Like most unplanned townships, the neighborhood has its own charm. The cobbled streets and the stores and old windows make great photographic material. When you come to Belleville, do take a stroll through the Belleville Park, and the view from some spots is just breathtaking. Of course you can see the Eiffel Tower and the big skycraper over there is the Tour Montparnasse. This is Cecile showing you Paris.

Take a tour of French Village of Lagrasse in Lagrasse, France — part of the World’s Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. When entering the French village of Lagrasse, it looks much as it did centuries ago. The town’s biggest landmark is its fantastic eighth-century abbey, Saint Marie d’Orbieu. Also popular are the town’s medieval bridges which span the river, and serve as common swimming destinations. The town’s narrow streets and alleys are lined by authentic medieval stone buildings. It’s a beautiful place in which to walk and has many sites to explore. With houses perched up against the river back, a rolling hillside backdrop, and ancient yet functional monument, Lagrasse is indeed a beautiful part of France.
