Entry from: Valence, France Entry Title: “Driving through the Rhone Valley” Entry: “And we’re back! Internet was pretty much non existent though the french countryside; so sorry for the late blog posts. At any rate; we decided in order to see the wine regions of France you have to drive, so yep, we rented a car! Freedom from bus, train, and metro schedules is amazing. Our first stop out of Provence was Orange, the gateway to the Rhone Valley. But as it was a Sunday, and a holiday, there wasn’t much to see, so we took off to drive through the vineyards of the famous Chateaunuf-de-pape region. It is better than you thought, seriously. We found a couple domaines in the hills that were actually open on Sunday, and then headed into the town where we had probably the best experience on our entire trip. We came upon a small wine shop, and the owner poured us the best wine we’d ever had, and topped it off with stories about the wine, his family, life in the Rhone, you name it. It was truly an unforgettable experience; and unforgettable wine, which we’ll be saving a bottle of for our 10th anniversary… when it will be at its prime. The next day we visited the St. Joseph region of the Rhone; further north. Again, amazing wine and amazing people. You’re supposed to call ahead to make an appointment with the

A Midnight Stroll through the Latin Quarter

Posted in France Travel | 3 comments

A 14-minute walk through the heart of the Latin Quarter, starting on the rue de la Huchette and ending on the boulevard Saint Germain. Shot in almost one continuous take, with only a single cut. I didn’t use any low-light enhancement on this, so it looks essentially as it does in real life. Crank up the sound to hear ambient noises as they were during the walk.

Entry from: Normandy, France Entry Title: “Through Rouen to the Normandy coast” Entry: “Didn’t really stay long in Rouen, we were on our way to Normandy we like the Normandy coast and its villages the best We visited Mons St Michelle and walked its cobbled streets. Along with what seemed like the whole population of France. Peter walked up to the basilica at the top. I stayed in the town and ate ice cream …… now who is the clever one. We paid a visit to the American War Cemetery on the D Day landing sites on the Normandy beaches. A very moving experience. Thousands of young soldiers lost their lives. The cemetery is beautifully kept up by the French. Many homes fly French, English, Canadian, American and Australian Flags in recognition of the sacrifice made in WWII. It is pleasing to see that the contribution of all the Allied forces is recognised and respected. There are various monuments all along this section of the coast with a recent addition of a Canadian monument. We stayed overnight at a pretty fishing village. The whole of Normandy is a very pleasant area of France” Read and see more at: www.travelpod.com Photos from this trip: 1. “Mont St Michelle seems to rise from the sand” 2. “At Mont St Michelle” 3. “The population of France” 4. “Mont St Michelle” 5. “Inside Mont St Michelle” 6

Entry from: Les Ulis, France Entry Title: “Bonjour, France!” Entry: “First of all, let me say the French are great people. Contrary to the widely held belief that they are a rude people, they are polite, kind and helpful (and better looking than the Brits). In the event they are rude is as a response to the rudeness of the visitor. So if you plan to visit France, be nice. The friends I am staying here are great hosts, and I appreciate Grace’s time and help in Paris and well as Clermont for letting me stay at his place and Camille’s family for the rest of the stay. Great sites; the Eiffel Tower is very impressive in person, and the Louvre houses the best artwork collection I have ever seen (my favorite is the “Coronation of Napoleon” by David). Food: Crepes, pastries, baguets, duck, fresh fruit all very good. City with good food so I splurged a little. One of my favorite places I found was an Arabic teahouse that is next to a mosque in Paris. I hate tea, but this tea was good and an anbiance that makes one feel like in the middle of an Arabic city/country. I am having an issue waking up on times since London and this is following me to Paris. I missed my train from London to Paris, but caught the next one a 1/2 hour later. I bought an alarm watch for the specific purpose of waking me up, but it hasnt
